This week I put up two more pages of my continuing webcomic ARE YOU BEING WATCHED? on Patreon. These continue the storyboard sequence showing the history of the 24 Hour Comic, including my own part as the cartoonist holding the World’s Record for 24 Hour Comics– 17 so far:

Scott McCloud And Steve Bissette Make A Guest Appearance On ARE YOU BEING WATCHED?

While I have not been blogging about it every week, I have been plugging away at ARE YOU BEING WATCHED?, my webcomic about Reality TV, posting two pages most weeks on Patreon. In the most recent installment, we are into Hour Six of the 24 Hour Comic session which is being taped for a Reality TV program hosted by David Chelsea, famous cartoonist. David is being shown storyboards for a proposed animated opening to the program, which would tell the story of the invention of the 24 Hour Comic by Scott McCloud, inspired by his friend Steve Bissette:

End Strips: The Clerihews

This week I posted my 70th End Strip on Patreon. End Strips are short comics drawn in a vertical format on random strips of paper, usually ones trimmed from larger sheets by my daughter Rebecca for some school project or another. These have tended to fall into a few main groups: drawings of celebrities from my various clippings folders, short strips featuring my characters Sandy & Mandy, drawings of Facebook friends who share the same first name, rhyming song lyrics that happen to have an anapest meter, and clerihews- short comic poems about famous people with my caricature illustrations.

Modern Love Podcast: Groomzilla!

Yesterday, another of my old Modern Love column illustrations for the New York Times appeared with a podcast reading of the essay it originally illustrated. On this week’s podcast, the actor John Cho reads “Men Don’t Care About Weddings? Groomzilla Is Hurt,” about a groom who, in the process of planning his wedding, becomes a person he doesn’t recognize.

The first Secret Stash posting of the New Year on Patreon is ten more illustrations from my 1970s tenure at Portland’s underground paper, the Scribe. The subjects include such fads of the time as Renaissance Faires and Folk Masses:

RIP, Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher came along a bit too late to be the focus of my adolescent fantasies. By the time the first STAR WARS was released in 1977, I had already seen Sissy Spacek nude onscreen in PRIME CUT and CARRIE, as well as Cybill Sheperd in THE LAST PICTURE SHOW, FAYE DUNAWAY in CHINATOWN and NETWORK, Carol Kane in THE LAST DETAIL, Shelley Duvall in THIEVES LIKE US, and Valerie Perrine in LENNY, not to mention any number of real-life and up close actresses in the Storefront Theater, both onstage and in the dressing room, so her chaste appearance as Princess Leia didn’t do much for me. Her harem girl outfit in RETURN OF THE JEDI might have made more of an impression, but that didn’t come out until 1983, by which time I was 24, and well past fantasizing about actresses.

End Strips And Call Slips

Here’s something I’ve been meaning to post about for some time, and I have finally found a break in my hectic schedule (which has lately consisted mostly of napping and coughing up phlegm- I’m coming off a bad cold).

I have been preoccupied with edits on my latest book, PERSPECTIVE IN ACTION, for the past few weeks, and so I have not been putting up regular blog posts about my Patreon page. However, I have been faithfully posting material every week – fan art from my illustration days, cards from the BLOCKBUSTERS OF RHYTHM & BLUES set, and so forth, as well as new pages of my web comic ARE YOU BEING WATCHED?
