Mugg Makes Some Changes

virginvalkyrie

I posted the latest page of my serialized webcomic ARE YOU BEING WATCHED? on Patreon yesterday. In this installment, Mugg is managing a comic shop on the Reality TV program Cellar Dwellers, and has decided to make some changes in the store, inspired by a visit from a fetching female comics fan (Mandy in her nerd girl guise). Mugg’s partner is dubious:

First Thursday Fan Art on Patreon

The votes are in, and by an overwhelming margin my subscribers have chosen to make Fan Art the new First Monday feature on my Patreon page (the other choice, Looping Gifs, got zero votes).

ALL DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT on Patreon- Plus Routine Mischief!

allday01

Today is the Second Thursday of the month, and time for me to post some comics from the archives to my Patreon page. This month I begin serializing ALL DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT, a 24 Hour Comic from 2013, which continues the story begun in ARE YOU BEING WATCHED? Having used up all his previous wishes, Mugg finds himself stuck on one last Reality TV show, in which the contestants compete to draw the best 24 Hour Comic. Naturally the program is hosted by the cartoonist who holds the record for the most completed 24 Hour Comics, David Chelsea:

The Secret Stash On Patreon: Coquille Board Caricatures

coquille02

It’s the third Thursday of August, and time to post some Secret Stash material on Patreon. This month, I’m posting a whole lot of caricatures, mostly drawn for the New York Observer’s Eight Day Week column, which I illustrated from 1995 to 2008.

Still Coming In January: Snow Angel’s Comics Convention Coloring Book

I recently posted about this minicomic, which I will premiere this month at Wizard World Portland. Here’s the cover:

snocolbookCOVERcolor

Not to give too much away, but this story involves Snow Angel (in her everyday guise of a little girl named Angel) and her brother Aidan bringing a Snow Angel comic book to their local comics convention. I am indebted to the very gifted Jacob Mercy for drawing the cover of this comic-within-a-comic:

Feel free to add color to this image! And see you on January 23-25!

David Chelsea In Love: “A Minor Landmark”

WHAT did you say your name was?
WHAT did you say your name was?

My first graphic novel David Chelsea In Love made it into the the Onion’s A.V. Club autobiographical comics primer this week, along with such heavyweights as R. Crumb, Art Spiegelman, Harvey Pekar and Will Eisner. Since the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about, I am on balanced pleasedĀ  to be included, even though what’s written is hardly an unqualified rave and even though the writer (one Sam Adams, presumably not the mayor or the beer) got the name of my main female character wrong (for future reference, it’s “Minnie” not “Millie”). Here’s the relevant section:

The Other David Chelsea
The Other David Chelsea

When I launched this website two and a half years ago (with the very able help of Brad Smith and his crew at Hot Pepper Studios) I naturally intended to put my name on it, only to find that the web address davidchelsea.com was already taken, by an Italian porn actor with the same name. Who knew? I had no choice but to settle for the more generic but available dchelsea.com, as well as a few variants like davidchelseainlove.com, and so it has been ever since. Well, good news- a few days ago my friend Jacob Mercy informed me that my namesake had relinquished his hold, and the domain name was once again available. One credit card payment to Godaddy.com later, the name was mine.
