This Week on Patreon: Rebecca’s Snow Angel Rough, And Mugg’s Lucid Dream

strikefinal01

It has been a while since I posted any archived comics to my Patreon page, but this week I have a real treat– a pencil rough for a story featuring my superhero character Snow Angel, drawn by my daughter Rebecca. Rebecca, who had been the real-life model for Snow Angel, drew the story in her sketchbook while away at a music camp for two weeks one summer. I redrew the story with some changes, and it became the final story in the SNOW ANGEL collection published by Dark Horse last year.

Happy Holidays! My Christmas Eve was cheered by the long-awaited arrival of the third issue of AMERICAN BYSTANDER (long-awaited by me, that is- I understand Kickstarter contributors got their copies in early November).

SLEEPLESS Stories: I LIKE TO RIFF

riff01

This is the last of my irregular series of posts about stories in my 24 hour comic collection SLEEPLESS, published this spring by Dark Horse. I LIKE TO RIFF is something of a victory lap, both for myself and for any reader who has made through all eleven of my previous 24 hour comics. I constructed the story by putting the names of the eleven previous comics in a sack, and drawing one out at random every two hours. See if you can spot all of them (the first six are in my previous volume, EVERYBODY GETS IT WRONG!).

I’m Going Off Caffeine!

nomugg

The reason being, that I’m drawing my first 24 Hour comic in three years this Saturday to Sunday from 8 am to 8 am, at Books With Pictures, a comics store at 1100 SE. Division St. in Portland (this is the store that was also the site of my recent SNOW ANGEL signing). My traditional method of preparing involves going off caffeine for a week before the event, then taking a ritual first sip at the eight-hour mark, after which I chomp chocolate-covered espresso beans all through the night. Feel free to stop on by and have a chat- if you missed the signing, I’ll even sign a copy of SNOW ANGEL for you!

Last week was Fourth Thursday on my Patreon page, and I posted some work in progress from my upcoming book PERSPECTIVE IN ACTION, this time a sequence showing me copying a photograph using an angled mirror, a method borrowed from the film Tim’s Vermeer:

Today it’s the first nine of thirty-six illustrations I did for the trading card set BLOCKBUSTERS OF RHYTHM & BLUES, published by Eclipse in 1993.

It’s the Second Thursday Of The Month, when I post archive comics to my Patreon page. This month, it’s THE ZONE, a xeroxed minicomic from 1989, originally drawn as part of Madi’s Mail Club, a series of booklets put out by East Village zinester Madi Horstman. THE ZONE was later expanded into my second graphic novel, WELCOME TO THE ZONE.
