This Week on Patreon: More Scribe Illos, And Mandy Makes A Gookie!
I have been keeping on keeping on with my Patreon page– this week, I posted two new pages of my continuing web comic ARE YOU BEING WATCHED?, as well as another 10 illustrations with commentary from my 1970s beginnings at Portland’s underground newspaper the Scribe. I went back to the archive at Multnomah County Library to photograph some images I had missed from the first year of the newspaper, including my very first piece published in the Scribe, this ad for a concert benefiting my alma mater, the Metropolitan Learning Center:

RIP, Abe Vigoda
When I saw the posting on my Facebook wall yesterday, I at first thought it must be a gag: RIP, Abe Vigoda. The veteran Godfather and Barney Miller actor had lived with persistent, Paul McCartney-ish rumors that he was dead since at least the Mid-1980s. This caricature I drew for The New York Observer in the Mid-1990s alludes to it:

Secret Stash On Patreon- Celebrity Envelopes: The Men
It’s the third Thursday of the month, the day that I post The Secret Stash on my Patreon page– that is, sketches, reference photos, old flyers, and other ephemera from my files. Today I have a selection of decorated envelopes sent to friends over the past four decades or so, specifically ones that depict famous people. Because there are so many of these, I split the pile up into male and female celebrities. This month it’s men; I’ll post envelopes with women at some point in the future.

BTW, you can read the rest of that comic, and five other stories, in Everybody Gets It Wrong! and Other Stories: David Chelsea’s 24-Hour Comics Volume 1, published by Dark Horse, and available here.
David Draws The Donald
Donald Trump continues to lead the polls, but responsible pundits keep telling us that his moment in the sun can’t last, and that Republican voters will eventually come to their senses, so I figure that I had better get this post up posthaste.

Go Patreon!
I have important news, everyone! I am beginning a new project which I hope will make a huge difference in my life, if not in the world. I am launching a Patreon page to support my work in comics. Actually, I launched the page a month ago, but I wanted to make sure that everything worked to my satisfaction before making a general announcement.
What is a Patreon? Well, it’s like a Kickstarter Campaign, but instead of making one big contribution to fund one big project, you make a series of little contributions to keep me drawing comics on a monthly basis. Really, it’s like a tip jar for the cartoonist, and like a tip jar, you can give as much or as little as you like.
This video shot by my awesomely talented friend Milan Erceg lays out the details. You can watch it on the home page, or on YouTube:
