American Bystander #5!

Breaking news- my personal copies of the fifth issue of the recently resurrected humor magazine AMERICAN BYSTANDER (editor Brian McConnachie produced a prototype issue in 1982; regular publication began last year) just arrived. This edition continues its peerless tradition of fine quality in excellence, with humor pieces by Jack Handey, Merrill Markoe, and Ron Hauge, a cover by the late New Yorker cartoonist Jack Ziegler, as well as comics by M.K.Brown, Howard Cruse, Ron Barrett, Randall Enos, Thom Hachtman, and others. It also makes space for my own full page illustration to the humor piece All STAFF-PLEASE READ by Steve Young. The illustration depicts a pair of very particular restaurant patrons, the Pauloofs:

Happy Holidays! My Christmas Eve was cheered by the long-awaited arrival of the third issue of AMERICAN BYSTANDER (long-awaited by me, that is- I understand Kickstarter contributors got their copies in early November).

David Finally Makes It Into The American Bystander!

I had a very odd experience on Facebook a few months ago. I noticed an item posted by my friend Howard Cruse, about a new humor magazine called The American Bystander, which was mounting a crowdsource campaign to get into print. What struck me as odd was that I had been peripherally involved with a magazine by the very same name launched by National Lampoon editor Brian McConnachie in 1982 that never made it past prototype.

Last week was Fourth Thursday on my Patreon page, and I posted some work in progress from my upcoming book PERSPECTIVE IN ACTION, this time a sequence showing me copying a photograph using an angled mirror, a method borrowed from the film Tim’s Vermeer:

It’s First Thursday again, and time to post a selection of Fan Art on my Patreon page. Since no fan drawings of my characters have come my way in the last month, I’ve posted my own drawings of other artist’s characters.

Are You Being Watched? On Patreon: Mugg Goes West- In Sepia!

Another Thursday, another two pages of my new webcomic ARE YOU BEING WATCHED? on Patreon (actually, I missed this Thursday because I was at the beach. Friday’s close enough). This time, it’s a scene set in the Old West, where Mugg has gone to test his “Gookie Face”, the expression that will instantly take him out of his adventures if anything happens to go wrong. This particular adventure has gone somewhat wrong from the start, since Mugg appears in the guise of a horse thief about to be hanged; however Mugg cannot resist a kiss before dying from a rancher’s wife who looks like Mandy, the girl he’s obsessed with. Can Mugg pull a Gookie before winds up at the end of a rope?
