Paper-Tiger Takes Notice

Nice review of Anapest: The Minicomic on UK cartoonist Sean Tiger’s Paper-Tiger Comix biog this week. This all-rhyming 12 pager combines three of my online Anapest strips with a longer story, “Chastity Blasé”, written by me and illustrated by Chad Essley.

The Stumptown That Was

It’s not Stumptown till I file my report. This year I decided not to bring my trusty Palm Pilot and instead left it to others to record the event in photos; the official pool of snaps can be found on the Stumptown home page.

Stumptown Preview #2: Envelopes

I’ll be selling copies of all my books at Stumptown this weekend, including the new one, Extreme Perspective! For Artists: Learn the Secrets of Curvilinear, Cylindrical, Fisheye, Isometric, and Other Amazing Systems that Will Make Your Drawings Pop Off the Page. And just like last year I will be selling copies of decorated envelopes I’ve sent to various correspondents over the years, with the original addresses digitally erased and the stamps pixellated, so that you can send them to your own pen pals.

Comic Art Battle at Cosmic Monkey
Comic Art Battle at Cosmic Monkey

The Stumptown Comics Fest is something of a yearly ritual for me, a chance to meet the reading public and reconnect with out-of-town friends I otherwise never see (Maryland cartoonist Carla Speed McNeil immediately noticed that I was walking without a cane; I had forgotten that last year I was still getting over a broken leg.).

l will once more be appearing this coming weekend at Portland’s annual Stumptown Comics Fest. My new book, Extreme Perspective!, won’t be published until next year, but I’ll be showing preview pages from it, selling old books, taking snapshots with my Palm Pilot and bringing something new- reproductions of hand-drawn envelopes from the series Letters To Geoff (minus their original addresses and stamps), which you can mail to your friends!

Stumptown Report

I don’t have all that much to say about last weekend’s Stumptown Comics Fest because l didn’t do much beyond sitting at my table and selling books-  I didn’t attend any panels or go to any after-parties. Instead, l  enjoyed the spring weather and the unusual luxury of being able to walk home from a con instead of to a hotel room. I sat, l doodled, l made money- kind of like a night watchman’s job.

Me at last year's Stumptown.
Me at last year's Stumptown.

This weekend l will be making my only convention appearance of the year at Stumptown Comics Fest here in Portland. I wasn’t able to get any new material together in time, but l will have all my books for sale; l will also make myself available for perspective consults. I’ll be taking donations as well for the S. Clay Wilson Special Needs Trust– if anyone’s on the fence about contributing to this worthy cause, they can preview the original art for the 24 hour comic I drew, a copy of which comes with your donation (I just haven’t finished scanning the art yet).
