
Usually I blow my own horn in these blog posts, and rightly so, but today I celebrate the recent accomplishments of my two brilliant and beautiful children, Ben and Rebecca. First up, the socks that Rebecca designed for the 2015 Design a Sock of Contest for the company Sock it to Me- which were third place finishers- are finally here in their true physical form! Show them off to your friends and family- you are sure to have the coolest slidy penguin socks around.

Next, Rebecca’s latest animated short, following up on the award-winning THE BLUE GECKO and THE SUMMER DRAGONS, is a video promoting Hugo Award winner Mary Robinette Kowal’s novel THE GHOST TALKER, a magical fantasy set in World War I.

Ben is back at University of Washington, but he was home for the summer, and one of his summer projects was a shred video (It’s a thing; watch a bunch of them here) of ABBA performing DOES YOUR MOTHER KNOW? live in concert. Check it out on YouTube.

For the video, Ben replaced the original music track with out-of-tune instruments, mistimed handclaps, and extremely strained vocals by him and Rebecca. This screencap gives you some idea what you’re in for- imagine vocals as painful as these expressions:
