ARE YOU BEING WATCHED?: Name That Character!

As I mentioned in my last blog post, ARE YOU BEING WATCHED?, my serialized webcomic on Patreon, is taking a hiatus while I work up new pages. The next sequence will take place entirely at the taping of a Reality TV show on which contestants draw 24 Hour Comics. The host is World 24 Hour Comic record-holder David Chelsea (I just drew my 17th 24 Hour Comic, WIPER WOMAN, at Books With Pictures on October 1-2). Mugg, the protagonist of ARE YOU BEING WATCHED? is of course among the contestants, and his perennial crush Mandy is also on hand as a production assistant.

24 Hour Comics At Books With Pictures: Wiper Woman and 24 Teachers

I did promise some time ago to do a report on my recent 24 Hour Comics Day experience at Books With Pictures, my first in three years. Here it finally is! What can I say? I could not have felt more at home in this wonderfully creative space, and I was most impressed with the work being done around me by a gifted crew of mostly beginner cartoonists, including my daughter Rebecca (who is not QUITE a beginner– she drew her first 24 hour comic at Things From Another World three years ago).

24 Hour Comics: The Documentary

A 24-hour comic is a 24-page comic book written, drawn, and completed in 24 hours. As I have mentioned before, I believe myself to be the World Record Holder in number of 24 Hour Comics completed, sixteen in all. My last 24 Hour Comics session was in May 2013 at Things From Another World in Portland (I’ve been busy, but I hope to draw at least one more later this year), which was recorded for posterity by documentary filmmaker Milan Erceg (who in a prior life served as assistant on my book PERSPECTIVE!), in his long-awaited documentary 24 HOUR COMIC. Three years in the editing, Milan now has a fine film ready to send out to the festival circuit, and you can have a preliminary look by viewing the trailer at the official website here.

Second Thursday: Snow Angel, And An End To All Day And All Of The Night On Patreon!

It’s the Second Thursday of the month, time for me to load a new comic from the archives to my Patreon page. This month, it’s the third and final installment of ALL DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT, a 24 Hour Comic in which Mugg finds himself a contestant on a Reality TV show hosted by famous cartoonist David Chelsea, in which he has 24 hours to draw a comic. Mugg ends up one of the top two contestants, competing for the top prize with a six-year-old boy in a wheelchair, who draws with a pen in his mouth (the blue ribbon panel of judges includes my own early character Piggola, The Virgin Valkyrie, a video game character who appeared in another strip of mine, THE GIRL WITH THE KEYHOLE EYES, and Kitchenbot, a robot formed of pots and pans and and cutlery, vaguely similar to Paul Guinan’s Boilerplate.):

It’s Wednesday- One Week To Sandy & Mandy!

Wednesday, November 18th, 2015, one week from today, is the publication day for Dark Horse Presents #16. The latest issue of this Eisner, Harvey, and Stumptown award winning anthology features a Brendan McCarthy cover which FLIPS OVER to reveal a Mike Mignola Hellboy cover and a special eight-page Hellboy story!

Today is the Second Thursday of the month, and time for me to post some comics from the archives to my Patreon page. This month I begin serializing ALL DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT, a 24 Hour Comic from 2013, which continues the story begun in ARE YOU BEING WATCHED? Having used up all his previous wishes, Mugg finds himself stuck on one last Reality TV show, in which the contestants compete to draw the best 24 Hour Comic. Starting Today On Patreon: Are You Being Watched?, The Webcomic

The long-awaited day has finally arrived, the launch of my new webcomic, ARE YOU BEING WATCHED? I have just posted the first two pages to Patreon. My plan is continue posting two new pages every Thursday, until the story is finished- or until I fall hopelessly behind on the schedule (at present I’m about five weeks ahead). I don’t have a firm idea of length at this point, but the full story is likely to be close to 100 pages.
