Two Modern Love Illustrations For February

I had two of my old Modern Love column illustrations from the New York Times repurposed for the podcast in February. From the website:

“How do you fall in love again after loss? How do you feel with all the complicated, conflicted emotions that come from grieving one person, and also opening yourself up to loving someone else?

That’s what Brendan Halpin explores in his essay. It’s called “Dedicated to Two Women, Only One of Them Alive.”

It’s read by Terry Crews. He stars in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” which returns to NBC on February 6th.”

David Chelsea Draws The Writers of Willamette Week

collage

I recently posted about the first illustrations I had done for Willamette Week since 1978, a pair of caricatures of Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. I’ve just gotten another, bigger assignment from Willamette Week art director Julie Showers, doing illustrated portraits of their staff writers, which will run with their bylines in the paper. Here’s what one looks like on the Willamette Week website:

David Chelsea Predicts The New Millennium

As the first decade of the Twenty-first Century draws to a close, it seems an appropriate moment to look back at a time when everyone was looking forward, the years just before the new millennium. Like an ex-girlfriend whose knowledge of obsolete computer languages got her work fixing the supposed Y2K bug, I was able to make a buck off turn-of-the-century fever by illustrating the Millennium Countdown column in the New York Post (I have been an illustrator for all three major New York dailies, but this was my only regular gig for a Rupert Murdoch publication).

In a follow-up to the Rasheed Wallace comic featured in a previous blog post, l have mounted all the episodes to date starting with this one, of an advertising series for SmartStart Practice, a service which provides veterinarians with the education and training to run their own businesses. The hapless heroine, Dr. Pauline, is an overworked vet perenially swamped by the details of maintaining her practice and in dire need of outside expertise.
