RIP, John McCain
I had remembered drawing a lot of caricatures of recently deceased Senator and Presidential candidate John McCain over the years, but I was only able to find a few in my archives. This group caricature from the 2000 New Hampshire Primary, drawn for INX, was the earliest. In case you don’t recognize them, the other figures are Texas Governor and eventual winner George W. Bush, Senator and former basketball star Bill Bradley, and Vice President Al Gore:

RIP, Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher came along a bit too late to be the focus of my adolescent fantasies. By the time the first STAR WARS was released in 1977, I had already seen Sissy Spacek nude onscreen in PRIME CUT and CARRIE, as well as Cybill Sheperd in THE LAST PICTURE SHOW, FAYE DUNAWAY in CHINATOWN and NETWORK, Carol Kane in THE LAST DETAIL, Shelley Duvall in THIEVES LIKE US, and Valerie Perrine in LENNY, not to mention any number of real-life and up close actresses in the Storefront Theater, both onstage and in the dressing room, so her chaste appearance as Princess Leia didn’t do much for me. Her harem girl outfit in RETURN OF THE JEDI might have made more of an impression, but that didn’t come out until 1983, by which time I was 24, and well past fantasizing about actresses.

The Secret Stash On Patreon: Coquille Board Caricatures
It’s the third Thursday of August, and time to post some Secret Stash material on Patreon. This month, I’m posting a whole lot of caricatures, mostly drawn for the New York Observer’s Eight Day Week column, which I illustrated from 1995 to 2008.

RIP, Ed Koch
Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, who died this week, appeared frequently in The New York Observer’s Eight Day Week column during the years I was illustrating it. After leaving office he wore many hats, including restaurant and movie critic; I suspect he’s giving the thumbs-up gesture in the above drawing in that capacity.
